Summary of Adult ADHT Experience

My ADHD awakening journey began in 1996 when working as a Mental Health Specialist & Commissioning for Public Health, at a time when the DSM IV (1994) introduced changes to its guidance.

My initial encounter with Adult ADHD clients was within the prison setting (more than 13 years ago) where approximately one in four adults presented with symptoms. At the time, ADHD assessments and treatments were not commissioned by prison services. While I could not initiate treatment, I managed stimulant medication continuity for individuals who entered prison already prescribed these treatments, provided their urine specimens were free of illicit substances. This experience underscored the growing recognition of ADHD within the prison population and the eventual approval of ADHD prescribing within this setting, with Atomoxetine initially being the sole drug of choice.

My formal ADHD training was completed through ADHD360, where I participated in a comprehensive three-day program. My Clinical Supervisor there was Dr. Caroline Bleakley, who presented the updated NICE NG87 ADHD guidelines at the Royal College of Paediatrics Conference in Glasgow (March 2018). I revisited my training with The Academy/Psych Scene, Endorsed by RANZCP in 2025.

Since August 2023, I have been actively practicing as a clinician specializing in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of Adult ADHD, utilizing tools such as DIVA-5, ASRS, Barkley, Copeland, WEISS, DERS, to ensure accurate and effective care.  I have conducted more than seven hundred assessments and more than two thousand reviews in the last two years. I carried a caseload and returned patients back to their GP’s via ‘Shared Care’ protocols once they were stable.

I am competent with stimulant medication prescribing including Methylphenidate (Immediate Release and variable action such as Concerta XL, Equasym XL), Amphetamines based products (Elvanse, Amfexa) and non-stimulants such as Atomoxetine, Bupropion, Guanfacine or Clonidine.

My clinical background also helps me manage patients with co-morbidities (Addictions, BPAD, BPD, Anxiety & Affective Disorders, Compulsive Disorders).

My Clinical Supervisor is Dr Alan Ogilvie, Consultant Psychiatrist and Honorary Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Brain Sciences, Imperial College London, UK
